Passover for the Christian: Knowing Him in the Fellowship of His Sufferings and the Power of His Resurrection

For the Christian, the Passover Season represents a new beginning. It is not a coincidence that the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified and subsequently resurrected during this season. Throughout history God has saved, delivered, healed and done great and mighty exploits for His people during this time of year. While we are observing the Gregorian New Year of the "Sun", the biblical New Year of the "Son" is happening right now. The Passover begins on the 14th day of the first month of God's New Year. More specifically, God said that the Passover season would represent the New Year for HIS people. Historically, "new" beginnings happen during this season which God said should be remembered forever. Just ask Joshua, Esther, Hezekiah, Ezra, Zacharias and Elisabeth if God has not remembered the season of Passover throughout history.

While we should not sacrifice lambs, we absolutely need to understand the purpose of sacrificial blood. Throughout history blood was necessary to atone for sin. Jesus shed His blood for us starting with the Garden of Gethsemane and continuing to Calvary. Adam lost dominion over the world and earth to satan, and sin became the prevailing force over both as well as all mankind who would subsequently come behind him. Through His sacrifice and subsequent resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ redeemed everything including mankind through power of his unequaled, sinless perfect blood. Throughout history the prophets of old spoke of He who was to come, live die and be raised again in all power. In order to truly appreciate Jesus, we must understand the reason for His making such a great sacrifice and the true power of his accomplishment.

In Jesus we have new life, and while each day in Jesus represents the opportunity for a new beginning, we should always be sure to honor what He honors, acknowledge what He acknowledges and observe what He told us to observe. Jesus said its hypocrisy for people who claimed to know Him to be able to discern the face of the sky and not be able to discern the signs of the times. Yet, we cannot learn the signs of the times without understanding the history in which the signs, seasons, days and years of Genesis 1 were established.
