The Danger of Spiritual Dehydration
By Bro Richard Tracey
►John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
Dehydration is a dangerous state that can result in many problems and if not taken care of result in death. We are made up of mostly water in our bodies. Here are a few facts that I would imagine you were unaware of.
►What Proportion of Our Body Weight is Water?
• Up to 70 percent of our body is water!
• ►Muscle is made up of about 75 percent water.
• ►Fat is made up of about 50 percent water.
• ►Bones, too, are about 50 percent water.
If you lose enough water you are really in trouble.
• Now this is not science class but the fact that we need water for our bodies, our muscles, bones, and even fat is critical. But not only do we have a physical body which has needs we have a spiritual man within us that has needs as well.
►David spoke of his great desire for the refreshing of water in this verse in Psalm 41:2 when he said “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

► So what is this Dehydration all about?
• According to the Mayo Clinic the definition for dehydration is : Dehydration occurs when you lose more fluid than you take in, and your body doesn't have enough water and other fluids to carry out its normal functions. If you don't replenish lost fluids, you may suffer serious consequences.
• Common causes of dehydration include intense diarrhea, vomiting, fever or excessive sweating. Inadequate intake of water during hot weather or exercise also may cause dehydration.
• I have had the first of these now for going on five weeks and Friday had to go to the Emergency Room at Brighton Medical Center to get 2 Liters of Sodium Hydrochloride pumped directly into my bloodstream.

• It didn’t taste good but did make me feel better.
• Having this condition has given me an appreciation for fluids and how much we need them in our bodies to survive.
• The more I pondered my condition I was given a message from God that we as His children could be spiritually dehydrated because we have needs for our spiritual bodies as much or more than our physical bodies.
• ►When our physical bodies get sick we have symptoms and things that happen to us that force us to deal with the problems.
• Although there are symptoms to spiritual dehydration and need in our spiritual bodies they are harder to detect and more easily seen by others rather than ourselves.
• ► We have Requirements to Maintain Healthy Fit bodies Physically
o Eat the Right Foods in Right Amts
o Drink Plenty of Liquids (the right stuff)
o Get Enough Exercise to Maintain Muscles and Bones
o Get Enough Rest to Rejuvenate the body
o Mentally we need Input to keep the mind active and productive (The right Stuff)
 This helps with staying off Alzheimer’s

• ►Just like the physical counterparts we need certain things on a regular basis to stay spiritually fit such as
o ►The Word of God, (the Bread of Life)
 Ps 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
 Mt 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
o ►The Spirit of God, (the Water of the Soul)
 John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
o Spiritual Exercise ( Worship, Praise, Witnessing, Sharing with Others – Fellowship
o Spiritual Rest (HOLY GHOST is Key to Rest for the Spiritual Man)
 Isa 28:11-12 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
 12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
 Ac 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
o Time spent one on one with God in Prayer
 1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
o and these are just the basics.
• Jesus spoke to a woman at the well about the water He had to offer us spiritually in John chapter 4…
• Jn 4:7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
• 8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
• 9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
• 10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
• 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
• 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
• 15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
Jesus has living water to give us. He spoke of that in John 7:37 when he said… In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

• ►Jesus also spoke of His Word giving life in John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

• ►We need those Words of Spirit and Life
• We need that Water of the Holy Ghost on a regular basis.
• Just as our physical man is made up of water so our spiritual man is made up of Spirit.
• You just can’t live without it…
• We need a daily dose of those Words of Spirit and Life.
• We need a daily dose of the Spirit of God infilling us. We can try to get by without it but it just doesn’t work.
• Just as our muscles which provide strength for our body are 75% water. The strength of our spiritual man is totally dependent upon a fresh infusion of the Holy Ghost. The joy of the Lord is our strength and without that fresh touch from on high we can have no joy.
• I believe there are too many dehydrated Christians running around and it shows – no joy.
• Bones also give our body strength and are 50% water. WOW that’s a lot of water in what we think of as rock hard. Everything is not as it seems.
• Have you been missing some backbone to live and walk for God lately, - you just need an infusion of Spirit.
• Even fat is good Spiritually speaking… remember that fat is also 50% water and we do need some physically as well. Not as much as most of us have, but we could all use some spiritually – God even says that is OK!
o Isa 55:2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
• The Church is the Holy Ghost hospital where we can come and get some but if all we ever drank was once or twice a week, guess how long we could survive. -- NOT VERY LONG…
• We need a daily infusion of Word, Prayer, Holy Ghost presence infilling by time with God (Spirit)
• God IS A SPIRIT – They that worship Him must do so in SPIRIT and in TRUTH. Notice how those Water of the Spirit and Bread of Life keep popping up together.
• It’s time to chow down on an infusion from above. Let God do a work in you today to restore that strength. Just like those 2 liters of water into the bloodstream, let’s get a Holy Ghost I V plugged in and running!
