There is no better man or woman to talk about when it comes to spiritual zeal than David, the psalmist. He said, "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God" (Ps 42:1). That was the cry of his heart. He was constantly longing for God. God in the morning, God in the afternoon, God at night. Everything about him was God. He said, "Seven times a day do I praise thee…" And "Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray…" (Ps 119:164, Ps 55:17). That was the secret of the outstanding life he lived. He followed God in a hard and rugged manner. In Psalm 63:8 he said, "My soul followeth hard after thee…" Not because he was a preacher or prophet, but he was simply a lover of God, his heart was after God.

You don’t have to be a pastor to encounter God, you simply have to be a lover of God. And the Bible says, "…Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him" (1 Cor 2:9). The best of God is reserved for the lovers of God. He has prepared great things for them that love him and the proof of your love for God is your hard following; your spiritual willingness, your interest in the things of God.

You know why the anointing did not last upon the life of Saul the first king in Israel? He was a spiritually passive person, he never counted spiritual things as important. That was why he disregarded every instruction that was given to him. His heart was not with God. So, when God was looking for another king to replace him He said, "…I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will" (Acts 13:22).

It is true that David made a lot of mistakes, a lot of errors, but his heart was with God. God overlooks our errors because of our human limitations, but He has no place for those whose hearts are not towards Him(i.e people who only say about their love for God but do not act on it or have any proof to show for it). He said, "…To this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word" (Isaiah 66:2). Until God gets your heart, you cannot get more of Him. He said, "My son give me your heart" (Prov.23:26). So, no matter how many mistakes or errors you make, no matter how many times you fail before God, never let your heart depart from Him. If you will keep your heart fervent towards God, you can’t miss Him.

The depth of your heart towards God determines the height of your exploits among men. Only those who go deep with God will rise high among men. So to everyone i say, keep longing and panting for more of Him. Be eager and zealous for Him in your heart. That is the key to unlimited encounters in God.
