I am the Minister of Music at True Light Holiness Church in Reidsville, North Carolina. We have only been established for one year and seven months. I recieved that position when we started the church, and with that positions, come alot of responsibilities. Everyone in the music department has no problem with following my directions when it comes down to the music but my drummer. He chews gum, talks during the service, dont like studying his music, and always has an adittude when it comes down to following my directions. Whats should I do about this situation.

As M.O.M at my church in Chicago, I would first have a discussion with him regarding his behavior/ demeanor and attitude. I would brning to his attention, church eitquette, teamwork, followship and professionalism, as well as, the purpose of music ministry and representing the Body of Christ. If this do not help, I would then invite him to music/musician workshops/seminars( I would or ask to church to financila support him, to ensure his attendance)- sometimes, there's strength in a second voice. Also, I would take him under my wing and let him come with me to other musician rehearsals, choir events etc- so he can see first hand AGAIN of how musicians are to carry themselves, represent their church and their call. If all elase fail, I would bring this to the Pastor and probably suggest that he be sat down for a little while. In the midst of all this, you stay calm, guided by the Holy Spirit, humble and caring. Show this gentleman your passion for music and music ministry and the seriousness of giving your best to God, He gave his best to us and we must utilize our gifts to His glory with all honor, and reverence.

I hope this helps some. Continue to be encouraged and blessed.

How is his playing?(lol the musician in me had to ask)

Ive noticed alot of church ministers talking through church(or sleep)

I wonder why this is the case
Our church drummer has gottten the message after the first discussion and is performing like a professional, respectful musician and is utilizing his God-given gift to his best. In addition, he's more focused on the music ministry and the betterment of that instead of his own agenda or looking at his playing as "just a job.".

In regards to the church ministers talking/sleeping, I have too observed this behavior during service but just maybe the minister has to relay an important message to the deacon, trustee etc., at that present moment. I have not seen long drawn out conversations taking place nor have seen a ministers talking that it disrupted the service, however, sleeping is a totally other area. Thank God, I'm not one of the talkers/sleepers lol.
