Steve McNair... a pastor speaks out. What do you think of the Pastor's advice???

BPN, what do you think about the Pastors admonishment for people to "drop their stones" as they discuss the slain NFL quarterback Steve McNair? Here's his comment:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Steve McNair’s(notes) pastor and close friend cautioned against judging the ex-NFL quarterback Thursday, reminding people who gathered for his memorial not to cast the first stone when talking about his life off the field.

McNair, who was married, was shot to death at his condo early Saturday by his 20-year-old girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, who then turned the gun on herself.

“Drop your stone the next time you write about Steve McNair. Drop your stone the next time you text somebody. Drop your stone the next time you twitter. Drop your stone, those of you in the barbershops, the beauty shops. Those of you walking the streets on the corner, drop your stone,” Bishop Joseph W. Walker III told thousands of people, among them family members, fans and more than 50 former teammates, gathered at Mount Zion Baptist Church.

“What I do know about this man was that he loved God though he was just like us: imperfect,” Walked said. “But he knew God.”

By the way, I agree that we should "drop our stones". I didn't know McNair personally so can not attest to his walk with God. However, at the moment he ceased living, all opinion of his salvation or lack thereof should cease because there is NO changing from eternity with God or eternity without God once you are dead. Why? Because it is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgment.

No amount of prayers we pray for someone who has died will change where they go.
No amount of stones we throw will add fuel to the lake of fire if they should go there.

LOL - that's a mighty big stone in that picture isn't it?

Amen and Amen, Minister I love your postings, you possess a rare wisdom, you leave the condeming to God.
I AGREE WITH YOU I KNOW STEVE AND HIS FAMILY IT SAD THE WAY IT ENDED BUT THE NEWS DOES NOT TELL THE WHOLE STORY HE WAS THERE TO BREAK OFF THE AFFAIR WITH ALL THAT SAID THE AFFAIR WAS WRONG BUT HOPEFULY HE GOT IT RIGHT WITH THE LORD AND HIS WIFE. WE NEED TO LOOK AT WHAT IT IS DOING TO HIS CHILDREN THEY ARE HURT HIS MOTHER, BRO. MOST OF ALL HIS WIFE . YES THAT IS A LARGE STONE AND MIGHT FALL BACK ON THE PERSON WHO THROWING IT. HE IS A MISSISSIPPI BOY WHO GAVE HOPE TO A LOT OF MISSISSIPPI CHILDERN
He is right the stone's should be put down. But I hope and pray that the notice was served on a nation wide scale that marriage is holy and scared and when you dont know when you will go but when you do you dont want to leave all these unanswered questions for your family that will go unanswered! My heart goes out to that family!
Yes! Drop it. There is no way for anyone to now judge another man's actions, much less the condition of his heart - he is dead and beyond questioning. What are we to now judge, what may or may not have been an accurate reporting of history? Have we heard all of the facts so that we might render a righteous judgment? The ability of a church assembly to render such a judgment has passed beyond our ability. God's judgments are already in place and not subject to our review.

What then are we to do?

Look to ourselves and our own sin. Look to the families that have been affected by these events and bring comfort, understanding, and compassion to these people and support them (and even to one another) through these times of emotional turbulence and spiritual uncertainty.

Now that's a word
Hi Min. Tracy, I want to give my firsthand impressions on this before reading any of the wonderful replies. Well, first let me say, I was a die-hard, 'Air-McNair' fan. Now, that said, Steve's situation reminds me of the Scripture, 'you shall die in your sins.' He died in his 'adulterous' sins and no amount of preaching against that reality can change that, it is what it is.

There's a big difference in 'judging' and 'discerning.' Unfortunately, he set up his life circumstances that the world is looking upon it for what it was i.e. 'caught in adultery.' Unlike the Biblical Pharisees, no one pulled Steve out of a 'adulterous' affair but that sick, deluded, 20 yr. old foreign girl who shot him.

His wife, children, preacher, relatives, religous folks, didn't drag Steve before Jesus as the Pharisees dragged the 'woman caught in adultery.' Steve is before Jesus by reason of that little, unbeknownst to him, unstable, foreign girl who he chose to toy with. As so, I don't think the preacher should admonish believers to 'blind ourselves' to the facts rather, his sermon should have been on, 'the wages of sin is death' or, as stated, 'you will die in your sins.' That, unfortunately is the 'message' Steve's adulterous affair sent to the world.

Now, no, I don't judge his 'relationship with Christ' as no one should for as the preacher more or less pointed out, 'all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.' We believers fervently know that one can fall short and still be a believer. This is why Yahshua said, 'daily pray, forgive us our sins.'

Our Heavenly Father has forgiven a multitude of daily sins but the fact is, depending on the circumstances sometimes one must die in them and Steve is exhibit A. Still, I judge NOT whether he was saved as I believe the preacher that he was but still, what a 'shameful' way to meet the Lord, Amen?

In the meantime, I pray strength to his wife, children, parents, brothers, sisters, relatives, fans who loved him dearly. I pray he is remembered for his 'outstanding' athletic ability. I know he will be. Yet, it's all about choices and Steve made a very bad choice that cost him, BIG TIME.

In light of this truth, perhaps, the more appropriate message from the preacher should have been, 'repent ye, and believe the gospel for the kingdom of God is at hand.'
IF ONE WAS NOT THERE DOING HIS LAST BREATH YOU READY CANT BE THE JUDGE OF HIM HE COULD HAVE GOTTEN IT RIGHT SO WAY CONT TO BEAT HIS FAMILY WITH THE SAM OLD JUNK THEY ARE HURT ENOUGH SO WE SHOULD PRAY FOR THEM WITH OUT ADDING SALT TO AN OPEN WOMB AND AGIAN I AGREE WITH THE PREACHERS. IN MS THE PASTOR OPEN THE DOOR OF THE CHURCH A SEVEN PEOPLE WAS SAVE WHEN IT OUR TIME IT OUR TIME.
The truth hurts but must be told. The world is always watching and so is Satan. He is always seeking whom he MAY devour (may means, has permission) The Lord has already made a decree that the wages of sin is death and we all must live by it. For some the ticket is stamped sooner than others (the LORD said , My spirit shall not always strive with man). Don't let God's mercy run out on you in your sins.

All have sinned and fallen short but we must remember that tomorrow is not promised and everyone has that dreaded appointment. Keep it tight by living right. No one is judging this man because God's judgment has already been carried out. What further judgment is there.

The lesson learned here is just like what sister Johnson said, Steve made some bad choices that cost him his life and those of us living must take heed and learn from this. These comments are not meant to hurt his family as they will probably never read them but this is a discussion that had a question of how to handle situations such as this.
EW, there is a report by a friend of McNair that said he was there to end the relationship, wether it is true are not, I have to agree with Pastor Bell, WE DON'T KNOW, and we have to learn as Christians to be silent about personal situations, we have not an inkling about.

Preach and teach the word, that adultery is wrong, but leave the condeming to God
I agree that the condemning should be left to God which is why I said What further judgment is there. I was merely responding to sister Johnson's stance on what the preacher should have stated to the living. I believe sister Johnson's post was dealing with the subject of adultery. Seeing that we all have an appointment with death, we should remember that tomorrow or even our next breath is not promised. 'And we should live accordingly.

This public situation has been viewed by the world and people have drawn their own conclusions based on the circumstances created by Steve & his girlfriend. The end of this was an end carried out by Satan and allowed by God.
