Devotional reading comes from Deuteronomy 31, which is Moses' last instruction to the nation of Israel that he was coming to the end of his time of leading them and that Joshua would succeed him. They were to follow Joshua as they did him—the sign of a good God-fearing pastor/leader giving final instruction to the church- His people.
