Christians Slaughtered inOrissa
Dear Ministry Partners,
After seven weeks of a busy trip to India, I just returned on Friday. It grieves my heart to inform you that our media in the USA cares less about Christians and is very selective and biased in their reporting. I have been talking to friends and family and found that no one here is getting any updates on the large-scale butchering of Christians in Orissa since August 24, 2008. While certain scandalous news events keep repeating themselves on all the news and cable networks, no one seems to be giving much attention to the happenings in Orissa or Christian persecution in general.
In just the last 10 days, as many as 43 Christians have died in days of unrest, and thousands more have fled their homes for the jungles. As per the latest Orissa government assessment, "At least 2,400 buildings, including prayer houses and schools, have been either damaged or burnt," Kandhamal district collector Krishan Kumar said. These statistics are hotly contested by Dr. George GSCIC and numbers are played down in a major cover up. "Armed Hindu activists are raiding the villages and threatening Christians with violence if they do not convert to Hinduism immediately." No one is getting the big picture of what is happening on the frontline of India. Kabita Naik, a 22-year-old Christian girl who fled from her village of Raikia on Friday, said her seriously sick grandmother died after Hindu activists besieged her village and refused to let the family buy medicines from the nearby town. "When the body of my grandmother was taken to the Christian burial ground by our [Christian] neighbors, the Hindu activists forcibly took away the body and burnt it [as the Hindus do]. They said, 'You are all Hindus and this Christian burial ground is not meant for your dead."
Western societies and western countries are extremely tolerant about their nationals being converted into other religions. When you assess the attendees at any Hindu Gurus center in the United States (Deepak Chopra, Hara Krishna, Sai Baba Ashrams, Art of living centers, and other new age/Hindu institutions in America), you will find more westerners than Indians are present! Here in the U.S. 31 states have large scale Hindu Temples and hundreds of mosques exist and continue to grow in number. No one knows and no one cares. There is total freedom for people from other religions to worship, convert, etc.
Large scale conferences and events are organized throughout summer and other major holidays in the US by prominent Hindu gurus, showcasing their religion and (worship) poojaris. Total freedom for Indian mystics to tour the USA and convert at large with no restrictions continues. But, in India? As Dr. George says, "A majority is afraid of a microscopic minority." They fear Christ and the Christians, because we hold the truth. And this truth will set the people free. Freedom is what India was built upon and what we Indians get in the West. Yet for the minority suffering is out of sight and out of mind for the mainstream.
YOUR ACTION AND PARTICIPATION ARE REQUIRED FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS!
A concerned Hindu friend said the other day that the atrocity against Christians in India is "startling the heavens and moving the gods." Yet the media and the national politicians in the U.S. don't care. Will you care to stand in the gap and lift the suffering saints in India?

Thank God for their faithfulness, and ask Him to provide for their needs * Pray for the healing of the Christians hospitalized as well as for the others in the attack * Pray that Alpha Ministries and Dr. George (GSCIC) will find success in helping the suffering * Pray that the Lord will provide food and shelter for the refugees * Pray for the families who have lost loved ones at the hand of the Hindu extremists and that they will be able to forgive them * Pray that justice will prevail in India * Pray that the Church in India will boldly continue the work for the Lord regardless of the persecution being experienced

We live in busy time, but please take time to build awareness of this situation * Petition (write, call, blog) your state congressman, senators, and governors and let them know about the suffering in India.
* Build awareness by informing fellow Christians, your pastors, churches and other concerned Christians about the suffering Christians in India.
* Do not undermine your effort. God is with you so pray that your comments and efforts get published and are heard.
The Indian government is running its own soup kitchen and relief camps so the outside world and media can be kept away. They are not permitting local NGO's and agencies to help. Alpha Ministries is currently partnering with pastors of local churches about 200 miles away from the epicenter in getting basic help (clothes, cooking utensils, medicines, food, and grief counseling), relief, and rehab. Pray that these secret channels of lifeline can continue and bless the suffering.
Please understand we will not be silent spectators as the church of Christ is bleeding, but rather we will be participants. Thank you again for your partnership. Because of your faithful prayers and generous gifts, the Lord is blessing our efforts in the frontline. As the Holy Spirit directs you, make a special gift. We would love to hear from you.
