R,I.P.???? Is there anything that suggests that we will REST IN PEACE for eternity......

Seems like everytime someone in Hollywood dies, no matter what state or level of living a Godly life he or she has lived, there will be those who will continue to say R.I.P. Why and where does that come from? Or is it just something to say since many don't know where this person's spirit is, so they just say or repeat the things like a mantra because everyone else says it. I've even seen this verbage and language spoken by Christians right here on BPN. But I'll digress................

R.I.P. is another way of saying I don’t believe there is a hell, when spoken on behalf of unbelievers. When I hears Christians speak these words for someone who wasn’t saved I REALLY get confused. A good friend of mine called me yesterday to discuss MJ’s death and we both had fond memories of him and spoke of our tears and morning of the situation. He was human and so are we, so we morn, right? My friend is saved and my sister in Christ and has God’s precious holy ghost just like I do but I was shocked when she spoke these words. Michael is resting now. He had a hard life and can finally rest.

When my uncle died last year my mom said that he was in a better place. Because she is my mom and I knew I wouldn’t get an argument from her, I said Moma, uncle Henry wasn’t saved so he is not in a better place. She then said you’re right.

Another scenario that came from one of my Husband’s best friend is equally as confusing. This brother is the assistant pastor of a Sanctified church in Detroit. He had a cousin that had taken ill earlier this year. She had become so ill that she wasn’t expected to live. Those that are saved in the family went a prayed for her and asked her to give her life to Jesus. Her response was I don’t want to be saved, I don’t believe in all of that.

This brother told my husband on the phone that her condition was worsening and that they wish she would just go ahead and die because she is suffering too much. My thoughts were, dying without Jesus will bring more suffering than anything she could suffer here on earth. I said, don’t saints believe in hell anymore. She would have been better off suffering with her disease than to die in her sins. This woman died and did not care to know Jesus.

The scriptures say that a man's spirit returns to Yehwah. No matter how the man lived his life, his spirit, as the scriptures say, returns to the Father. The man's body returns to dust. Their rest will be in peace til the resurrection.

That scripture you posted is Hebrews 4:9. It is referring to the Sabbath rest, and not just any ol rest.
