The holy apostle Paul thanked God that he spoke in tongues - which is a gift from God. He said he spoke in tongues more than all of them.
Paul instructed the Church not to forbid speaking in tongues and in another place he says -> he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.”

But is the gift of tongues given to EVERYBODY in the Church?

He asks these rhetorical questions as if everyone knew the answer already:
Does everyone have the gifts of healings? Did they all speak with tongues? Does everyone interpret? And in another place he said that he WISHED that they all spoke in tongues - as if they all did not have it.
What are your thoughts?
Is the gift of tongues for today?
Does the Lord mind if you speak in tongues at Church when there is no interpreter?
Are you even indwelt by the Holy Spirit if you dont speak in the tongues of angels/unknown tongues?

But is the gift of tongues given to EVERYBODY in the Church? Speaking in tongues is speaking another language, not some mombo jombo you can't understand.

He asks these rhetorical questions as if everyone knew the answer already:
Does everyone have the gifts of healings?
No.
Did they all speak with tongues? If the Holy Ghost gave them the gift to speak in another tongue just like that without them knowing the tongue or language before hand.
Does everyone interpret? If they know the tongue, or if the Holy Ghost gives them the knowledge to know that tongue.
And in another place he said that he WISHED that they all spoke in tongues - as if they all did not have it. wished they all could speak in different languages so all could hear the information that was being given.
Is the gift of tongues for today? If the Lord sees it necessary, and send the Holy Ghost to give that gift, or puts it in that person's mind to learn that tongue.
Does the Lord mind if you speak in tongues at Church when there is no interpreter? There is no speaking in tongues, blah, la, blah blah blah. That kind. Only different languages.
No ,all belivers in Christ Jesus do not speak in tongues, and yes they are saved. There are some denominations that teach if you don't speak in tongues then you are not saved. The baptist /methodist had long drawn out words with the pentalcostal church. only in the end for all denominations to lose millions of converts, tongues simply put is a foreign langusge between you and God.. I found no where in scripture/torah/josephus,etc that said that Christ Jesus spoke in tongues. I am C.O.G.I.C. I have never physicaly seen a service where one stood up to interpet tongues. The question ariese who is this interpeter, and yes tongues are a gift used in the proper context of Worship.
I don't think she was referring to what the daughter's of Rome do. I think she wanted to know what was the Bible's take on the matter.
"...There are some denominations that teach if you don't speak in tongues then you are not saved..."

HellooOoOo, I am from one of those denominations. Heehee
But I dont understand why they think that everyone has to speak in tongues?
I do believe that it is a gift for today. The gifts given at the beginning of the church age are still on the table and are being served up by our Lord. :-) However, from reading what Paul wrote - it is plain to me (as I see it) that everyone would not speak in tongues.
Additionally, I also believe in there is a gift of tongues that some do not speak to men in their languages but are speaking to God in a heavenly or language of angels but either way - it is not a language known to man.

As for speaking out loud in a language that is not understood by anyone - then Paul again was clear in saying - 'pipe down' and keep it to yourself. And I dont understand why the elders in the church wont correct those that will not follow the instructions but disrupt the services.
Sometimes I am caught up in tongues but it can be interpreted. We have to pray for interpretation. This has to be imagination. Honestly. I know if you all just dig deep in your hearts, you know there is no speaking in tongues. Be reasonable. Why tell little stories? Why don't we follow the Bible?
What was Paul speaking about then, Hezekiah?
What did he mean when he spoke of 'tongues of angels'?
Or what did he mean when he said he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.”
What does he mean by NO ONE understands? Because if its an earthly language - it must be understood by somebody on this earth ----> but it says NO ONE understands.

And of course I know that saints miraculously speak in other earthly languages to have a message that glorifies God and pricks men's hearts to seek salvation.
Genesis 10:20 These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.

Genesis 10:31 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations.

Mark 16:16-18 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Psalm 78: And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer. Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues. For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant. If you look at the first verse you see Christ the Rock, and the High God, the Father. That's another lesson.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. The Holy Ghost gave them other languages to speak, as the angel gave them utterance.

I am going to put together a lesson on this.
You didnt even read my post.
You dont understand.
I dont think you believe in the supernatural.
Yall need a supernatural Jesus.
You know God has supernatural gifts that He gave to the church - right?
I guess you wouldnt understand.
I did read your post, and I thought if you read in the Bible lined up correctly, that you would see that speaking with tongues is not some mystic language that needs to be interpreted by Gabriel or what you call the Holy Ghost.
So the 'gift of tongues' is just a language that any nation on earth would already speak - thats what you are saying - right?
OK.
I dont agree that thats all there is but OK for the sake of having a discussion.

So - do any of you guys speak in tongues beside english during church services? Has anyone displayed the gift of miraculously speaking in another language?
Do miracles ever happen in your law abiding assemblies?
Why do you want to see some magic. Find you a familiar spirit, and it will show you some magic.
Newview, that's referring to PRAYER and the fact that no one can understand someone's prayer if he's speaking it in a foreign language that only he speaks.

What you need to understand is that they did not have bablefish or any electronic devices to translate. At the same time the gospel had to be GLOBAL. So there had to be people who HEARD the gospel that knew other languages so that they could relay it in those languages to other people. These were known languages and the whole purpose of them (as it is with language in general) was to be understood. If someones language was not understood by the congregation then there's only one being listening who would understand. Not because YHWH speaks your made up gibberish languages but because he knows EVERYTHING which includes all languages, foreign and domestic. No one can say something he does not understand. Paul didn't say NO ONE ON EARTH understands. He's talking about the context of the IMMEDIATE CONGREGATION.

There is nothing to be gained by speaking in a tongue no one knows. And if you're speaking gibberish that does not even classify as a tongue. Of course Paul isn't going to say squat about "make believe" languages because that's not what they were speaking. Paul himself had the gift of tongues. But what did that mean? It meant that he could speak GREEK.

The only miraculous "gift of tongues" was when the gospel was heard in everyone's native language. What YOU are talking about is the exact reverse of that. The speakers spoke in their native language and were understood in different people's native languages. THAT is the miracle. Speaking in a foreign language you don't know is not a miracle and not what happened in the NT. And gibberish isn't a language at all. I've heard this done in person and if I had not been pinching myself the whole time..... I shutter to think how hard I would have laughed.

Shalom
