10 PROMISES EVERY CHRISTIAN SHOULD KEEP

There are 10 "I will's" that are found in Psalm 119 which every Christian should recite before the Lord on a daily basis.
The Psalmist was resolved to do certain things in his walk with Jesus. See if you are doing the same.

Psalm 119:7 says - "I will praise Thee with uprightness of heart..."

The Psalmist was determined to praise the Lord in the most sincere manner and affectionate way. He was sensible of the great favors which he received from Him and the great obligations which ensued. The more he learned of God's character, the more he desired to praise Him.

Psalm 119:8 says - "I will keep Thy statutes..."

Here he displayed the firm purpose to keep the laws and commands of God - in other words, to live godly.

From love to the Father, faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ, and a view to the glory of God - he had a desire to observe these commands in the best manner possible. He knew that he would have learned all the Scriptural precepts in vain if he didn't keep them.

Psalm 119:15 says - "I will meditate in Thy precepts..."

He meditated frequently on God's words, works, and ways. This brought great joy and happiness to him. There was no spiritual exercise that was more profitable to his soul than this one. He communed with his own heart about them and constantly revolved them in his thoughts.

Psalm 119:16 says - "I will delight myself in Thy statutes..."

People are searching for happiness in different persons, places, and things. The Psalmist found his happiness in God's Word. He heartily delighted in each verse. He was like one who skipped about and jumped for joy. He rejoiced in it as one would rejoice in great riches.

Psalm 119:16 says - "...I will not forget Thy word."

The world tries to crowd out our deep, sober, and meaningful thoughts. The Psalmist was fully aware of this so he resolved that this would not happen in his life. He took all the proper methods to lay up God's Word in his mind and fix it in his memory. He knew that he would not readily forget that which he treasured in his heart.

Psalm 119:32 says - "I will run the way of Thy commandments..."

With great readiness, cheerfulness, fervency, diligence, zeal, and pleasure, he was determined to perform the will of God in his life. His actions portrayed a certain force, swiftness, and delight. He hastened to obey God as one who runs to accomplish a goal. He devoted all of his energies toward this end. Every day he made sensible progress.

Psalm 119:45 says - "...I will walk at liberty..."

He was determined to enjoy total freedom in his walk with the Lord. He would not be hindered by men or the devil's checks and limitations. He would not be restrained by any evil passions or corrupt desires. He sought deliverance from every strait and difficulty so that he could be free and easy in his duty to do good.

Psalm 119:46 says - "I will speak of Thy testimonies also before kings..."

He was resolved not to sacrifice his belief in God to politics or pomp. He spoke out what he believed - even when found in the company of the highest, proudest, greatest, most elevated, or tyrannical of men. He saw no reason whatsoever to be ashamed - whether they were friendly or unfriendly toward the cause of Christ. He was not intimidated by their frowns.

Psalm 119:48 says - "My hands also will I lift up unto Thy commandments..."

To "lift up the hands" was an expression denoting a fervent longing desire toward something. It was an expression of delight, exultation, or a high state of joy. It signified putting one's hands toward doing something with all one's strength and might. In this case, the Psalmist's heart was set on keeping God's commands. His heart was bursting with an overwhelming esteem of and affection for each one.

Psalm 119:62 says - "At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto Thee because of Thy righteous judgments."

His soul was so full of the Word that he could not help but rise from his bed - even at midnight - to offer God praise for it. At a time when he was unobserved by the world, he rose to give thanks. His interest in and love for God's law was so great that it even interrupted his sleep.

"I will praise Thee..."
"I will keep Thy statutes..."
"I will meditate in Thy precepts..."
"I will delight myself in Thy statutes..."
"...I will not forget Thy word"
"I will run the way of Thy commandments..."
"...I will walk at liberty..."
"I will speak of Thy testimonies also before kings..."
"My hands also will I lift up unto Thy commandments..."
"At midnight I will rise to give thanks..."

"I will"..."I will"..."I will"...

The result of keeping these promises before the Lord Jesus?

A life of total happiness - for the Scriptures inform us in Psalm 119:1-2 as to who exactly are the "blessed" people - "Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. Blessed are they that keep His testimonies, and that seek Him with the whole heart."

Are you one who is enjoying purity in his way and walk and, resultantly, is on the road to heaven?

May God Bless His Word,
Connie
