A PEOPLE WHO DELIBERATELY CHOOSE TO DO WRONG

What happens to a people who deliberately sin before God's eyes - who choose to do that which they know He despises?

The answer can be found in three particular verses in the Book of Isaiah -

Isaiah 50:2 says - "Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer?..."
Isaiah 65:12 says - "Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before Mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not."
Isaiah 66:4 says - "I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear; but they did evil before Mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not."

Take notice of this one line - "...but did evil before Mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not."

These were a people - not unlike those of today - who persisted in their choice and pursuit of evil...with deliberation, committed sin in God's sight and presence...and in contempt of Him, did that which they knew was displeasing to Him.

What kind of response did they give to Him when He called them to repentance?

None!

That is exactly right! These people who were deliberately persisting in sinful practices were putting out a stiff arm to any type of appeal!

Isaiah 50:2 relates God's inquiry to these rebels - "Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer?..."
Isaiah 65:12 says - "...because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear..."
Isaiah 66:4 adds - "...because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear..."

Through the prophets, God was calling them to repentance - to leave their sin and bring forth fruits meet for repentance - but none responded or heeded the warnings...no one answered...nor did any obey, regard His voice, or turn. The appeal was seemingly all in vain.

Why was there no one?
Why didn't anyone yield obedience to His call?
How could it be that none responded?

The answer?

Sin! Deliberate Sin! Walking in total disobedience before God!

Oh, Reader, are you in that place of rebellion? Has God been calling and calling and calling you through various voices (Preachers, Teachers, Parents, Spouse, Boss, etc) but due to your sin, you have totally ignored or disregarded His warnings?

To all those who purposely choose to do their own thing...set aside His Word as the only rule for their actions...or go contrary to His Will for their lives, this is the final outcome - "I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them..." (Isaiah 66:4). In other words, He will answer to their own ways by choosing the harsh treatment, vexations, calamities, or mockeries which they thought to escape or avert. That which they most dreaded will come upon them.

If there be no turning from all sin, He warns - "Therefore will I number you to the ...."

In the case of the Israelites, they were numbered to the "sword" - where many were destroyed in the invasion of the Babylonians.

But what doom - or retribution in kind - does God have for our nations or this generation of people who persist in rebellion and continuously ignore His warnings to turn from all sin? Are you among that number of rebels?

Is He saying of you today - "...because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before Mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not"?

If so, it's time to answer the call to repent and turn from all sin.

Whatever you do - Don't provoke Him to say -

"Therefore will I number you to the ...."

May God Bless His Word,
Connie
