This was the most blessed discussion I have ever read. I thank you and thank you all for sharing your memories and memoirs.... the name mother is more than a title and is perhaps the most Beloved title a woman of Yah can earn. I feel so de-throned in these readings but praise Abba that he drew me here for guidance and wisdom and example. As I read the testimonies, I thought of TD Jake sharing how it was the church mother that brought him back to the church..... mmmm how this mother impacted our world is non-measurable... I truly thank you all for these writings. These can make such a treasure for a future book... Brother Eric Hancock... what a mighty anthology it would be and a great remembrance for those who protected our Father's children. Shalom and Ahava...Martha

this is what this is about remembering what we were taught and it is so sad that alot of people cannot relate or may had bad memories or maybe none,,I can relate to the country to me that is where all of our real trainning on life started and if noticed people move up here from the country but dont want to be burried up in city soil ,they want to go back to the country to be burried..God has a way to bringing back to our remeberance on what he has planned and put into our lives,,that grandparents trainning go further than naything we can imagine..there has been times where i am in the house alone and reflect back back and I too start to roll back the cutain of memories and my eyes get watery, even when I was young and being whipped ,,LOl because I got the most it was love in it as well,,and for that countrty food MY,MY,MY,,LOL sunday dinners up here in the city was lunch compared to down there,Everything was freshly made NOTHING made from scratch.God is good and thankyou again for the memories good too see that someone has eaten from the table of Holy Living

Living on Our Grandmother’s Prayers- Sandra Dukes,a.m.
A Reply to Brother Eric‘s “Church Mothers”

This morning I was blessed with the Holy Spirit bringing to my remembrance in the form of song and prayer that of my great- grand mother. As the tears flowed down my face and I felt this incredible joy of knowing I know who my God and Savior is , I began to sing, “ If it wasn’t for the Lord tell me what would I do. He’s been every, everything to me”. And as the flow of the Holy Ghost began to move within me and upon me, I began to pray and I began to remember parts of one of Mama Lee’s prayers. And then Brother Eric, I thought on your message about our church mother’s of old. How we would rise and go to church on the summer Sundays of my annual visit to the country. The house always smelling of some delicious aroma for the after -church dinner; of something freshly baked, fried chicken, purple-hull peas and hot- water cornbread. I remember the rush of great, grand and parents shouting out orders to playful children to “hurry up and get dressed, we‘re going to be late for church “. And then Brother Eric the sweetest memory came to my spirit of the calmness, the peace that would come over us as we bombarded the front door. There standing was my great-grandmother in all her stewardess white, by my Daddy Walker, her husband and prayer partner for over sixty -years, smiling and humming a song of praise. The memory was so sweet it brought a fragrance of Camay soap and Lily of the Valley perfume. I could feel my Mama Lee’ love, God’s presence and I heard her prayer sing out from the past still sealing my family’s future. “If it wasn’t for the Lord tell me what would I do- Thank you Father for this day of blessing ,that me and Walker can see your mercy and grace manifested in the face , health and prosperity of our children, Lord. You’ve been water when we was thirsty; our food in barren lands, you comforted us when we were sick, God you always, always been on hand. You’ve been every, everything God to me”…….Amen

And what you just said the VIRTUOS WOMAN of God,we have alot of them here on BPN as well..people quick to say what would Jesus do?well after we heard all the sermons ,it is now time to PERFORM a sermon that is what Jesus would do,and that is what a real church mother would do,,I use to here ' I dont want to hear a sermon I want to see one' meaning it is not what you say but what are you doing after yo said it?,,Good wisdom

Woman of GOD I tell you they were indeed the pillows of the church, you and Sis. Cole and the others came up under some good stock..But I am seeeing more and more that they're being disrespected by clergy, and the youth are being raised up over them,,I have seen when they told the younger members to cover themselves up and dont use curse words outside the church grounds, dont be so quick to chase the little boys and vice versa,,they're now being told to mind there business, you aint my mother,,,WHAT HAPPENED???it could not had been when I was comming up they would have performed there funeral..LOL..RIGHT THERE..LOL,,But I thank God for that teaching and I always will

Wow!! I have too many memories growing up to even post here. I LOVE all the Church Mothers that were in my life coming up for showing me HOW to be a VIRTUOS WOMAN OF GOD. I LOVE the ones in my church today for "pulling my skirt tail" when I get off the path! It's funny...the Youth and some of the parents call me "Mother Hen"...because I'm what they call "old school"! Lol...BIBLICAL is what I call it. Things in church should be done decent and in order. The Church Mothers serve a MIGHTY purpose. I THANK GOD FOR THEM!

And that is what this is about picking up what was done and running the right way with it..I dont know what is Going on with today saints somewhere they missed the mark..but I and a few others can say we seen what real Holiness was therefore we dont have to accept what we see now,,One other thing I see alot in the Church is that the leaders put the youth in front of the Mothers because they are the future, and for financial reasons, they are bringing the tithes and the Mothers a monthly Check but like you said they need that trainning and it does not mean that a person came from a broken home or dysfunctional family so the church Mothers had to raise them!!! NO that is not what this blog is about ,,it is about witnessing real Holiness and Character that pleased God..and I too mis them days,,what I seen then I dont see anymore sister Cole it was not about the Money But are you SAVED is your name on the role, is God smiling or frowning when he see's you? to me that is more important than the money

What happened down through the years! Church mothers are so much different now! The church 'mothers' of today sit in 'their' seats, in 'their' corner Sunday after Sunday, turning their noses up at the younger generartion instead of training them. They won't speak to anyone, and will barely respond if spoken to! They see younger people out of order and talk about them instead of lovingly directing them in the right way. You barely see them smiling, and some you just hate to go near! A lot of them get to church late! When I was growing up (I'm 45) the mothers of the church looked out for the children as if they were their own. They trained us, loved on them, and lovingly corrected them. They knew how to pray and prayed until things happened. They were the ones to hold the church together. They were the first ones in the church and the last ones to leave out. And they always had treats for us. And boy they could cook!!! I miss that, but being from that time, I hold those principles dear to my heart and practice modeling the old 'church mothers'.
