I am so blessed to be surrounded by Great Preachers in my home. Not only is my husband a great expounder of the Word, but so is my 27 year old son -John.

Here is a three part series that John wrote on the demoniac found in Mark 5. Each point has a powerful message that is meant to stir us to action for the Lord.

May you be blessed by each one.

Here is Point #1.

Blessings to all of you today.

*********************************

In Mark 5:1-20, we find the story of the first man that Jesus actually commissioned and sent forth as an evangelist. Of course, when Jesus found him, this man was in no shape to reach his world for Him. He was not leading a team of soul-winners out on the streets or holding miracle crusades in the local coliseums. On the contrary, he was manifesting devils when Jesus arrived at his town.

But just a few minutes with the Master, and this man was preaching to everyone about what He had done for him.

This brings me to my first point which is: As Christians We Should Recognize The Spiritual Needs Of Those Around Us.

Look with me at Mark 5:1-8.

"And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. And when He was come out of the ship, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped Him, And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with Thee, Jesus, Thou Son of the Most High God? I adjure thee by God, that Thou torment me not. For He said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit."

Notice that Jesus stopped and paid attention to this man and his demon problems. Some Christians today may have instructed their disciples by saying - "Keep on walking, look the other way, and ignore the devil." Others may have said - "Sir, I recommend a good psychiatrist to you. In fact, here is his card. He will give you some drugs to stabilize your condition. Get some help for that, man!" But Jesus took the time to stop and deal with this man's problems; and I think that it's time for the Church to arise and address the spiritual problems of those they come in contact with also.

Jesus knew that this man was miserable beyond description, and He came to set him free.

As Christians, we come in contact with miserable people all the time.

No, they may not be shrieking out or breaking chains in graveyards, but inside they are crying out for help just like the man in our story. Some of these people may actually cut themselves - like many depressed teens and young adults throughout America today. Others may be exhibiting less obvious signs of depression or demon possession.

Yet it is up to us as God's people to recognize their needs and help them.

A few months ago, a friend of mine stopped at a gas station before church to get gas. While paying for his gas inside the store, he heard a man who he could tell was a little drunk - laughing to another man about how he had a way with women and could get any one he wanted. Upon hearing this, my friend pulled out a Gospel tract and handed it to this man. To make a long story short, he ended up driving this half-drunk sinner to church where he ended up getting saved.

Later, this new convert told my friend that he had every intention of going home and committing suicide that night, until he brought him to church and got him saved.

Christian, be sensitive to the spiritual needs of those around you.

Listen, can you hear the cries of those oppressed of the devil?

Then why not do as Jesus did?

Minister to them and set them free in the POWER of the Holy Spirit.

May God Bless His Word,
Connie
