The E.K. Bailey Expository Preaching Conference!

This week I attended the best preaching conference south of the Mississippi. Joel C. Gregory, Maurice Watson, J. Alfred Smith, Robert Smith, James Earl Massey, Freddy Haynes, A.L. Patterson, H.B. Charles, Jr., and of course, my pastor Ralph D. West, Sr. The theme this year was 'Preaching That Builds People'.

Since the passing of Dr. Bailey several years ago, the future of the conference was some what uncertain. This year marked the revival of the conference and a new direction as well. I hope in the future that the conference will include preachers such as: William Curtis, Marcus Cosby, H. Beecher Hicks, Jr., John Fils Aime, Kenneth Wayne Johnson, Jr., Charlie Date, A. B. Sutton, and others just to name a few. If you haven't attended the conference I would like to encourage you to do so.

Dr. Ralph Douglas West brought the most powerful, convicting, challenging, and provocative message that I have ever heard in my life time. I can't wait to post it on my page. 1 Timothy 1:3-7

There is a shifting, a turning that is at the early stages within the African American pulpit. From this shifting a line will be drawn. On one side will be the liberal, subjective voice of those who find the gospel to restrictive, narrow, unengaging, and even unreliable. On the otherside, there will be a remnant of clergyman, who will hold fast to preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ; unapologetic orthodoxy, with a spirit of love, in a good conscience, with unbridled faith. The ones to watch, will be the ones in the pew. Let us pray they know the difference.
