Today I had the privilege of visiting two saints at two different hospitals. I am intentional in the use of the term "privilege" because once again I saw the miracle working power of God at work. What a blessing I experienced.

They couldn't be much different. Or so it seemed. One a man, the other a woman. One a Baptist, the other a Seventh Day Adventist. One with a virtual army of familial support, the other very much a loner. Two different hospitals. Two individuals who had come from different parts of the world took ill around the same time, ended up in hospitals within a few hundred feet of each other. Both afflicted with diabetes, unfortunately resulting in the loss of a limb.

I visited Bro D in the morning. His right leg had been amputated from the knee. He is a laborer, a hard working brother. I was grieving and worrying. How would Bro D, a fiercely independent man who eschews victimhood be able to continue to provide for himself?

I entered Bro D's room and he was smiling. Actually he laughed. And he kept telling me all he could was laugh. I put on my counselor's hat and I was sure that the Bro was just in denial. The reality hadn't dawned on him. (A little learning can be a dangerous thing.) But Bro D was not in denial. I was confident after counseling with him, reading Scripture and praying that the Bro had reconciled himself to the Sovereign God's will. His laughter was a blow to the evil one. He had taken his best shot and could not break the spirit of one of the least of God's children. Hallelujah!

I visited Sis P in the evening. Sis P is retired and a homemaker. Sis P was surrounded by blood and church family. The first words was from her lips were, "I thank God," and with her usual cheerful spirit she said she had resigned herself to God's will for her life. She joked about how she would ambulate (the term she used was "hop scotch"). She was not in denial. She was not under any illusions. Once again after praying I felt the peace of of God. The kind that is beyond understanding.

And then I knew the power of that peace. The miracle working power of peace. The peace that comes with knowing God for oneself. Thank you Bro D and Sis P.
