WHAT THE DREAMERS OF A BLIND GOD ARE SAYING

"...most men ACT as if it were their belief that the wicked are in no danger of being punished, and that there is no such attribute in God as justice." - Barnes' Notes

"A practical disbelief of God's omniscience is at the bottom of our treacherous departures from Him..." - Matthew Henry Commentary

Who are these "dreamers of a blind God" to which the title of this message refers?

They are best depicted in the following three portions of Scripture -

Psalm 94:5-7 says - "They break in pieces Thy people, O LORD, and afflict Thine heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless. Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it."

Ezekiel 8:12 says - "Then said He unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth."

Ezekiel 9:9 says - "Then said He unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The LORD hath forsaken the earth, and the LORD seeth not."

In Psalm 94, we see a picture of the unregenerate oppressing, treading down, grinding, crushing under foot, and trampling on the assemblies, estates, families, and persons of God's people. To these people whom God loved - His choice and chosen - the ones to whom He had a special delight and interest - these wicked ones were taking great pleasure in causing them much sorrow and deep depression, grieving them, running them down, and rooting them out.

Among the persecuted ones were the feeble and unprotected - the widows, immigrants, and fatherless. Instead of being comforted and welcomed, they became the victims of fraud and murder.

The evildoers by their words and conduct were saying to all of the world - God is too far away to notice...His eyes have grown dim... He isn't looking...besides, He doesn't care what happens to His chosen people...we will not be punished for our wickedness... hence, we have nothing to fear.

What arrogance...absurd presumption...and abominable blasphemy is found here among these infidels! Yet, what is doubly frightening and disturbing is the fact that this same attitude is found in many in our world today!

We are living in the midst of unreasonable brutes who are no different from the beasts of the earth. They know no more of the character and plan of God than the dumb animals. In total exasperation of their stupidity and lack of attendance to the truth, the Psalmist declared - "Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?" (Psalm 94:8)

In Ezekiel 8, we get a picture of the seventy elders of Israel - worshipping idols or gods of the various nations in dark and secret places - lest they be found out and lose their place of prominence.

Because their sin was hidden from man's eyes, they automatically assumed that God did not see what was done in the darkness either. Their sin blinded them into thinking that He didn't regard their sinful ways. Their idolatry caused His presence to be far from them. Therefore, they reasoned that He had forsaken them - so they might as well look to other gods for deliverance and help.

How many today sin behind closed doors - thinking that no one can see what they are doing? They seek to find the darkest or most secluded place - hoping to shut out all "eyes" from their wrongdoing. Needless to say - there is One Who is watching and calling them into account - irregardless of their words which say - "The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth."

Lastly, Ezekiel 9 depicts Israel and Judah as being guilty of the most outrageous crimes - murder and injustice of the worst kind. The land was filled with violence, yet justice was not administered to the criminals.

Believe it or not! These were God's covenant people at one time. Now their hearts were hardened in sin.

What brought them to this place of apostasy?

Simply this - they began to reason among themselves saying that God didn't see nor care about what injustices were going on in their land. They supposed that He had forsaken them and left them to do as they pleased. Consequently, they felt "liberated" to sin with impunity. After all - they supposed - the Almighty will never intermeddle in our affairs.

What we see happening here can be explained in Ecclesiastes 8:11 - "Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil."

Perhaps you are reading this message today and feeling very smug in your sin. You know that you are living offensively in God's sight. Just because you have not been caught by men, you think that you are getting away with "murder" - so to speak. You have your "little secret chamber" all set up where you sin and no one seems to disturb your immorality.

There is one thing you forgot to consider - Sin blinds you!

Your secret sin has deceived you into thinking that even God isn't watching or doesn't really care. He must not - for nothing has happened so far to stop you!

Congratulations! You are now an official member of the group called - "The Dreamers Of A Blind God."

You may say all day long that - "The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it" or "The LORD hath forsaken the earth, and the LORD seeth not" - but the truth of the matter is - you are sorely mistaken - totally deluded by Satan Himself!

God sees what is happening in the light as well as in the darkness.

Read what David said in reference to the Lord in Psalm 139:12 - "Yea, the darkness hideth not from Thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to Thee."

You may confess all day and all night long that - "The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it" - but your words will not - in the smallest measure - alter God's Word.

He sees it all! And He is calling you to repent today! Turn from all secret sin now.

"...Now is the accepted time...now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2).

Never forget that - just because the wrath of God has not fallen on you for your sin - does not mean that it's not coming!

You can stop it from coming.

Will you?

May God Bless His Word,
Connie
