Actually it is only safe to conclude that the story of Adam and Eve is more about creation than ordained heterosexual monogamy because if we do then we must say sex is only for creation, there is no story of love, dating, friendship, etc. We must only deal with what is in front of us.
Gerald,
More nonsense from you! What we can conclude is what the biblical record clearly delineates, which is that God created male and female, gave them corresponding, complimentary, and comparable sexual organs for the purpose of "becoming one" sexually and intimately.
Everywhere in the Scripture where the subject of marriage is discussed, it ALWAYS speaks of the institution as a union between a man and a woman and nothing else! When Paul deals with marriage in 1 Corinthians and Ephesians, He minces no words when he declares, "Husbands love your Wives as Christ Loved the Church", and "Wives Submit Yourselves to Your Own Husbands as Unto the Lord". Of course, he said so much more about the institution of marriage and the family in the afore-mentioned passages as well as in Colossians. You might as well give it up! If you're a Homosexual, rather than trying to find some wiggle room for such a deviant and utterly nasty lifestyle, why not try repenting of the sin and asking Christ to set you free? You do remember don't you that it was Jesus who said, "Whomever The Son Set Free, Is Free Indeed!"
But a principle that always holds is that we allow the Bible to interpret itself. Jesus made it clear to us that the story of Adam and Eve is specifically relevant to God-ordained marriage:
And He answered and said, "Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE, and said, 'FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH'? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. [Matt. 19:4-6]
Jesus exegeted the passage, and we should trust Him to have presented the broader significance.
Besides, you haven't really read Genesis 2 if you can't see that companionship for the man motivates God's creation of the woman. There is a lot more to that story than procreation.
Dear Joseph:
Great word indeed! I have shared the very same passage and have made the same point, but our friend, Gerald will find some excuse to try to dismiss it or to refute it.
Thanks!
Wayne
Ah, Brother Cooper, should we ever expect someone thoroughly invested in a philosophy or belief system to divest himself merely through our correspondence with him on these message boards? I know I have had spirited debates here and at other sites with Messianics, Unitarians, feminists, Muslims, liberal theologians, and confirmed atheists. The most I ever hope for is a civil and intellectually honest exchange. In fairness to Min. Palmer, by those standards he has been a good correspondent. He's usually polite even when an ad hominem attack is leveled against him. I admire his poise, even while I cringe at his misbegotten LGBT advocacy.
If there is any purpose for orthodox, Christian apologetics on a message board, it is for the sake of more casual readers. Someone whose mind is not made up may encounter these exchanges, and be swayed by our arguments. That is why it always behooves us to conduct ourselves in a gracious--even courteous--manner. We can strenuously disagree with a correspondent without being vicious and hateful. Indeed we must maintain a respectful tone, or risk losing ground with the undecided audience that may be reading our posts.
Joseph:
Very well said! I think you're correct.
How about the church get their divorce rate up THEN the church can tell somebody about marriage.
The church doesn't even respect marriage but the church wants to say it will destroy the sanctity of marriage?
Are you kidding me?!
Let's be real people.
Get it together.
As I stated and I will continue to state...
When the church can SHOW THE WORLD HOW TO STAY MARRIED then they can preach marriage to others.
Name calling is not of God if so, find me a scripture that proves that.
Don't allow your personal bias' and issues get in the way of what you SHOULD be doing as a man of God.
Remember, there will be alot of "saints" standing in judgment with their hands dripping with the blood of those they have killed spiritually with their words and deeds.
