What is the original tithe? Do you mean the earliest recorded instance of tithing?
Yes I Am Concerned About How The OriGinal Intent Of The Tithe Was Ever Changed!
The earliest recorded instance of tithing is Genesis 14:20, where Abraham tithed of his spoils of war to Melchisedek the local priest. Most modern tithing is of financial increase, and is given directly to an ecclesiastical entity, just as in this earliest example.
Guess I Misunderstood Scripture For I Thought Moses And The Egyptians Tithed And Kept It For God Before Melchizadek! Are You Saying It Is Alright To Tithe To Man? Please Explain Why So Many Say That THE TITHE IS GOD'S!
Abraham lived nearly 400 years before Moses was born... so obviously his experience tithing predates Moses'. As for who tithing is intended, even according to the instructions God gave Moses, tithes were always given to people:

"For the tithe of the sons of Israel, which they offer as an offering to the LORD, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance; therefore I have said concerning them, 'They shall have no inheritance among the sons of Israel.'" [Num. 18:24]

"When you have finished paying all the tithe of your increase in the third year, the year of tithing, then you shall give it to the Levite, to the stranger, to the orphan and to the widow, that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied. [Deut. 26:12]

As to why "so many" say that the tithe is God's, you should probably ask someone who makes that claim. I would guess they are paraphrasing what God said through the prophet Malachi: "Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, 'How have we robbed You?' In tithes and offerings. [Mal. 3:8] But I would never say the tithe is God's without explaining how God always intended it to be given to people (Levites, priests, orphans, widows, etc.) for their sustenance.
Good post, brother Gill. I have a question. What about the things under the ban in Joshua?
Jos 6:18-19 "But as for you, only keep yourselves from the things under the ban, so that you do not covet them and take some of the things under the ban, and make the camp of Israel accursed and bring trouble on it. 19 "But all the silver and gold and articles of bronze and iron are holy to the Lord; they shall go into the treasury of the Lord."
NASU
Okay why are you here?
Pastor Sweet, the items that the Lord wanted consecrated to Himself was not what we would call a tithe per se, in that it wasn't 10% of their increase from conquering Jericho. Instead, though, one could see a parallel with the principle of first fruits, I suppose.
Okay, I have head some say that it was a titihe and wanted some insight thanks!
