No one who truly understands prayer believes that by this means one advises God of anything He doesn't already know, or of how or when to do His will. Prayer is the expression of our desire to God, but true prayer is not an insistence upon that desire. Nor would anyone who knows God wants to persuade Him to do anything that is contraty to His will, even if such persuasion were possible. God is wiser than we are. To express in prayer as Christ did as a man, "Not my will, but thine be done" (Luke 22:42), is to acknowledge one's finite understanding and to surrender one's desires to God's infite wisdom and love, knowing that His way is best.

For an open discussion:

It is my inderstanding, that Christians should pray "according to God's will. "Why doesn't God just do His will without being advised how to do it? If He knows everything, why does He need anyone to tell Him what needs to be done? If God "care for His own," as I have so often heard preached, then why do "His own" ever have to cry to Him to supply their needs?

It’s time people. Time to make us known. For the most part our readers are Christians, but some are not. It’s time for us to tell our story of hope and redemption. Our testimonies sit like forgotten clothing in the bottom of our closets. Like the awards and trophies we won in grade school, occasionally we will visit the awards and trophies and recall the days of our victories. And like children others look on in amazement, never having a clue of what God has done in your life.
It seems that testimony time has gone out of style like bell bottoms and dashiki’s. Like a proud parent, God beams as you share the moment of how you came to know Him as He forgave you of your sins and embraced you in His arms. IT’S TIME.
