There are certain characteristics that distinguish a wicked woman from one that is godly. What are they?

Nowadays, in our society, it's becoming more difficult to draw a clear-cut line between that which is holy and that which is profane. This ought not to be. The Bible definitely separates the two. Hence, we should do so as well.

In this message, we would like to examine six characteristics of a wicked woman drawn from several verses of Scripture. After reading this message, may we all be more aware of the striking differences between the unholy and the holy.

1. She Is A Cunning Hunter Of Men's Affections

Ecclesiastes 7:26 says - "And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her."

This woman is pictured as a cunning hunter who uses artful tactics and schemes to catch her prey. Within her heart are the "snares and nets" or the entangling affections by which she entraps men, and her embraces are the "bands" by which she seizes her captives.

A true Woman of God does not play with a man's emotions and affections. She would never endeavor to entice or seduce him with the bait of pleasure. She is not out to ruin any one's life or testimony for the Lord.

2. She is Totally Oblivious To Any Sounds Of Alarm Or Judgment

Isaiah 32:9-11 says - "Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech. Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come. Tremble, ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones: strip you, and make you bare, and gird sackcloth upon your loins."

The Prophet Isaiah spoke of the coming invasion of Judea by Sennacherib. He prophesied of calamities and great distress where the "vintage" - the source of wealth and luxury for the nation - would "fail."

He called for the women to "rise up"..."hear" and "give ear" to the voice of the Lord..."tremble"..."be troubled"...and "gird" themselves with sackcloth.

Did they hear the Word of the Lord?

Not at all!

They were so caught up with the fashion, "ease," pleasure, wealth, and merriment of this world. God called them "careless daughters" for they did not regard His word or warnings.

A Woman of God will be "sharp" in the Spirit and not dull. She will not allow the pleasures of this life to intoxicate her to the point where she is totally oblivious to the dangers that surround her.

3. She is Unrestrained in Dress and Demeanor

Proverbs 7:10-11 says - "And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtle of heart. (She is loud and stubborn..."

This woman's attire is flaunting and revealing - making bare her entire neckline and breasts. She practices no modesty whatsoever in her dress.

She is "loud and stubborn" - indicative of her impatience for any restraints, checks, yokes, control, or godly counsel or advice.

She is "subtle of heart" - telling and living lies before all.

The woman of God dresses modestly - at no time or in no manner ever trying to cause a brother to stumble through the lust of the flesh or the lust of the eyes. She welcomes the "yoke" of the Lord Jesus in her life - which means that she accepts all "checks and restraints" that lead unto godliness. She is a true "Israelite" in whom there is no guile or deceit (John 1:47). Hence, there is no "game-playing" or manipulation found in any of her relationships.

4. She Is Weakminded and Driven By Sinful Desires & Propensities

2 Timothy 3:6 says - "For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts."

This woman is an easy target for any and all False Prophets - simply because she is swept away by flattery and charm. She is a "silly" woman - one who is weakminded and easily deceived.

Her heart is filthy - "laden with sins." She is under the influence of sinful desires and evil propensities. She is lifted up in pride, vanity, and is easily "taken" by novelty of any sort.

The Woman of God, on the other hand, is pure, holy, righteous, and, consequently, bold against sin. Because she walks closely with the Lord, He shares His secrets with her and, resultantly, she is very discerning and not easily deceived (Proverbs 3:32).

5. She Is A False Prophetess Who Leads Others Astray

Ezekiel 13:17-23 says - "Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them...Will ye hunt the souls of My people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you...lying to My people that hear your lies... Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life. Therefore, ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations..."

Ezekiel was commissioned by God to "set" his face against the "daughters" who were prophesying in the land. These "seductive women" were lifted up in pride - pretending to see visions - while being full of false doctrines which excused sin in the people.
They justified the wicked in their sin and condemned the just for their holiness and godly living (Proverbs 17:15).

The Woman raised up by God to preach, teach, or prophesy never coddles sinners in their sin. She never excuses sin in anyone's life. She doesn't condemn the just by calling their obedience "legalism." Nor does she ever justify the wicked so that they feel no need to turn from their wicked ways.

6. She Instigates Sin In Others

Numbers 31:16 says - "Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor..."
Nehemiah 13:26 says - "Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin."
1 Kings 21:25 says - "But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up."

Here we find three instances where women were raised up by the devil to cause others to sin.

Moses was angry with the leaders in the camp who spared the Midianitish women - "...Have ye saved all the women alive?" (Numbers 31:15) It was these same women who were the chief criminals in tempting the Israelites to uncleanness - bringing a "plague among the congregation of the Lord" - "...these caused the children of Israel...to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor..." (Numbers 31:16).

Even though he was the wisest man on the earth, Solomon, through his disobedience, became ensnared by "strange wives" and "outlandish women" who caused him to sin by turning him away from the true God unto idols.

It is said of King Ahab that he sold himself to "work wickedness in the sight of the LORD." He became a perfect slave to his own lusts and passions. But who was behind all of his evil deeds? None other than his wife Jezebel who "stirred" him "up."

The Woman of God would never lay a stumbling block before another to cause him to sin in any way or manner. On the contrary, she will always provoke him to walk in holiness and the Fear of the Lord all the day long.

Today we have the Wicked Woman and the Godly One. Notice that there is no "in-between."

Jesus has no "daughters" who are mixtures of both. They are not half worldly and half holy. They are not sometimes pure and other times unclean.

O Woman, in the Light of God's Holy Word, how do you stand before the Lord Jesus today? On which side of the fence are you found? In whose camp have you set up your tent, so to speak?

May we, as God's Handmaidens, allow the Holy Spirit to sanctify us to the extent where we will never, ever give anyone an occasion to call or consider us to be a "wicked woman."

May God Bless His Word,
Connie

this message is a blessing to all women who may have stumbled or have been confused about whether their behavior proves their parentage. Thanks for blessing me.
