EW, I don't see a problem with it when it is kept in the right context in the heart. I do think some sociopaths, cross over to extreme devotion, however

Devotion to a cause, group or person is not wrong. We are devoted wives and mothers, there is nothing wrong with being devoted Americans, a devoted family member.

One saluting the flag is just like one singing their alma mater school song, or reciting ones church creed, mission, or statement of faith,... giving honor where honor is due....
All that it means is that you will abide by the laws of the country. Now, if those laws contradict Torah, then we obey God rather than man.
Based on the actions of some people, do you believe some have been worshiping the flag? Is it safe to say that the patriotism of some is too over the top? Some people would actually harm you if you even rip or tear a flag. What are your thoughts? Do these people worship the flag?
EW,

No, they do not worship the flag. They love their country.
More than God they do, thats abnormal
Evan,

For many, yes.
When you pledge allegiance, you pledge devotion. Devotion means an act of worship, so it is an act of worship especially when they ask you to cover your heart and lift one hand in the air.
EW,

Its not neccessarily that. It CAN mean that, but not exclusively. Everyone on here is in Allegiance with this country in one way or another. if not, then you would not be in this country. Or, you would have started anarchy! They would have did you like they did eartha kitt.... banish you from the country. But eartha was accepted back.
Praise the Lord Saints.... I found this on another website a while back because we had the same question in bible class..

But as for me.. It just don't sit right in my spirit.... My allegiance is to God and to him Only!!!! my opinion.....No we ought not to

I Pledge Allegiance------------------------------- I Promise to be faithful and true (Promise my loyalty)
to the flag ---------------------------------------------to the emblem that stands for and represents
of the United States -------------------------------all 50 states, each of them individual, and individually represented on the flag
of America--------------------------------------------- yet formed into a UNION of one Nation.
and to the Republic--------------------------------- And I also pledge my loyalty to the Government that is itself a Republic, a form of government where the PEOPLE are sovereign,
for which it stands,---------------------------------- this government also being represented by the Flag to which I promise loyalty.
one Nation under God,------------------------------- These 50 individual states are united as a single Republic under the Divine providence of God, "our most powerful resource" (according to the words of President Eisenhower)
Indivisible,------------------------------------------------- and can not be separated. (This part of the original version of the pledge was written just 50 years after the beginning of the Civil War and demonstrates the unity sought in the years after that divisive period in our history)
with Liberty -----------------------------------------------The people of this Nation being afforded the freedom to pursue "life, liberty, and happiness",
and Justice -----------------------------------------------And each person entitled to be treated justly, fairly, and according to proper law and principle,
for All. ------------------------------------------------------And these principles afforded to EVERY AMERICAN, regardless of race, religion, color, creed, or any other criteria. Just as the flag represents 50 individual states that can not be divided or separated, this Nation represents millions of people who can not be separated or divided.

*Promise your loyalty to the Flag itself.
*Promise your loyalty to your own and the other 49 States.
*Promise your loyalty to the Government that unites us all,
Recognizing that we are ONE Nation under God,
That we can not or should not be divided or alone,
And understanding the right to Liberty and Justice belongs to ALL of us.

Can we truly say that EVERYONE is Recognizing that we are ONE Nation under God,
think about our wedding vows, I love my husband and I am devoted to him, but I don't put him before God in my life.

I don't see a difference in the examples
I can see what you are saying!!!

When it comes to the pledge.. to each it own... .. a crime hasn't been commited if you don't say it!! LOL
and more thing... this pledge is a lie!!! can we really say there is Justice for alll come on now!!!!
