As we count down to the final days of this 2008 presidential election the drum beats have echoed the spiritual responsibility of the presidential office. How are the responsibilities of the oval office going to line up with the principles of God. God ordained the race thus far and a "black man" has historically come up in the ranks to be a shoe-in hopeful for president. Preachers are declaring and others are hailing this election again seeking a Messiah to answer the ills for all of humanities plight. The war in Iraq, the economic condition, the educational system, racism, sexism and whatever else we would like to lay on the lap of being healed by humanity or one man. One of the best forums that I was privy to, and not to down play the historical value and the pride of all of us that Barack Obama has come this far by faith, is that this race is about the presidential office. The president of the Free World and Mr. Obama, if elected, has gained with it all the responsibilities of the office, plus some little more abecause he is a man of mixed heritage. It is not personal, it is spiritual, and it is a fact! There is one savior, Jesus Christ, and God works through humanity to create his purposes. Just as Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Marcus Garvey and all the other men and women who have shaped history in a spiritual and profound way - this is yet another chapter of that book. We must continue to pray, we must continue to work with legislation, we must continue to teach our children, we must continue to do everything that we did before - this is not the second coming. This is history and we continue to make it. I believe in the power of God. I believe in the power of humanity and I believe in the responsibility of each of us to bring the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. I heard somewhere that we are active soldiers and we report for duty each morning that we are graced with the new mercies of God. We cannot afford to destroy any more of our leaders giving them more responsibility and/or pressure than what is due them. We serve God and He will not share His glory with another.
On another note, if we have not required that all the other political officals answer to the spiritual precident required of them by the word of God, how now can we begin to do that. It is not a given - it is a work in progress. There is nothing in this election that reflects that we are putting a prophet in office we are electing a politician and we are yet to be the prophets to this nation, to our communities, in our homes, in our churches, in the political arenas. Yet, to be that. Yet, to sit on the hill and participate in legislation, yet to speak to our churches in all arenas that affect humanity politically, socially and spiritually. We have to do it now more than ever because God has graced us to be in this monumental period in history.

So our responsibility is to vote, to be consistent in our due diligence to pray, and continue the work of our hands as we are blessed to move into the monumental time of our history. To God be the glory and get out and vote! And after the election continue and do more than we did before. The struggle continues until every human being knows that Christ is alive and well and requires that we live according to the Kingdom of God and this is real politics, this is real Kingdom work. As it has been stated, "all politics points to God and the humanity of politics and the humanity of religion are one in the same." Yes, we are believe that all things are spiritual and as such we are spiritualizing the upcoming election but it does not put the weight of our experience in this country on one man - by the contrary it should point our direction to God and our responsibility to be obedient to the word of God even the more for no one man can truly run a country. All things are possible with God and without Him we can do nothing.
