THE TV IS MY SHEPHERD

This poem speaks volumes....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE TV IS MY SHEPHERD
The TV is my Shepherd: I shall turn it on. It makes me lie down on the sofa.
It ravishes my soul. It leads me in the paths of Ignorance and violence,
For the sponsor’s sake.
Yea, though I walk in the shadow Of my responsibilities,
There will be no interruptions;
For the TV is with me.
It’s cable and it’s remote control They comfort me,
It prepares a…
Tithing: Quotes Froom Ancient Church Fathers, Modern Leaders and Encyclopedias
Ancient Church Fathers, Modern Leaders and Encyclopedia Quotes on the Subject of Tithing,
A survey of all the writings of the Early Church up to A.D. 600 (easy to do
with computers) is silent about tithing in the Church being a necessity. In
fact, it was the position of the great early Church Father Irenaeus that tithing
was a legal obligation in the Law of Moses and therefore is no longer
binding. He explains this in chapter XIII of book IV in “Irenaeus…
Others were increasing their screening of pigs and pork imports from the Americas or banning them outright despite health officials' reassurances that it was safe to eat thoroughly cooked pork.
When Is One “Born Again”? Not Now, But At the Resurrection...
When Is One “Born Again”?
The truth is one is "begotten of the Spirit" today then "born of the Spirit" at the Resurrection..
Many believe that being “born again” means having a “religious experience” or “accepting Christ.” Also, this is believed to constitute the process of conversion. Anyone having “experienced” this is said to be “saved.” Yet, is this what the Bible says?
RECONNECTING THE SEVERED ROOTS OF OUR FAITH
RECONNECTING THE SEVERED ROOTS OF OUR FAITH
by John D. Garr, Ph.D.
As we search diligently to discover the truths that will reconnect us with the *Jewish heritage of our Christian faith, we are discovering that virtually every area of our lives is enriched by the nourishing sap that we draw from the roots of the olive tree. It is by no means an exaggeration to affirm that every authentic expression of Christian faith rests on the foundation of the Judaism in which Jesus and…
Many people use the word Pentecost & Pentecost, but they really have never realized that this observance was a "Feast Day" originally given to the Children of Israel in the Law of Moses. Let's peruse through some Bible reference material to review some historic information about this Great Feast Day!
Torah Keeping???
Earlier today the author of the previous blog entitled, "Torah Keeping" deleted the whole blog which was one of the most popular ones on this site, having over 10 pages of discussion and responses. Since the discussions were not completed and many, many questions were left unanswered, this renewed blog will pick up where the other one was so abruptly discontinued.
This blog will endeavor to explore the validity of keeping the commandments/Torah of God/YHWH based on the… Continue
OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA ON ASSISTING YOUNG MEN OF COLOR TO MAKE A BETTER LIFE
OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA ON ASSISTING YOUNG MEN OF COLOR TO MAKE A BETTER LIFE
By Dr. Henrie M. Treadwell
I applaud your recent creation of the White House Council on Women and Girls to help ensure we are treated equally in public policies, by employers and in every other aspect of American society. I must also urge, however, that you place a similar emphasis on men and boys, particularly young men of color, who face some of the steepest hurdles in… Continue
Polygamy? Deut. 21:15 should read: "If a man *has had* (past tense) two wives,”
Deut. 21:15 should read: "If a man has had (past tense) two wives,”
But the traditional assumption that the O. T. sanctions polygamy has led to careless and perverted translation, at this point. Deut. 21:15 should read: "If a man has had (past tense) two wives,” as proved by the tenses a little further along, "have borne" and "was hated.” The Hebrew language has no proper tenses, as we understand them, so that the tense must be determined largely by other forms in the… Continue
Pay Attention to Detail
Pay Attention to Detail
Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them. And fire came out from before the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD. (Vayikra / Leviticus 10:1,2; ESV)
Both this week's Torah and Haftarah portions speak of the dire consequences of neglecting to carefully pay attention to how we…
The Making Of A Baby and YHWH's Festivals
The Making Of A Baby and YHWH's Festivals
Biblical Holy Days: The Making of a Baby
By J. R. Church
Zola Levitt discovered an amazing correlation between Biblical Holy Days and the gestation of a human baby, from conception to birth. While preparing for writing a book for new parents, Zola contacted a gynecologist for some help in understanding gestation.
During that session, the gynecologist showed him a series of pictures, pointed to the first one (an…
The Folded Napkin--Balderdash!
By Daniel Lancaster | Comments (6) April 12, 2009
At First Fruits of Zion, we have received a rash of email inquiries about the alleged, Jewish custom of folding a napkin in a particular way in order to indicate an intention to return to an unfinished meal. An email circulating on the internet is the source of the queries. The following is an excerpt:
"Why did Jesus fold the linen burial cloth after His resurrection? The Gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the napkin,… Continue
The Sabbath Even Resurrection: "The Resurrection of Jesus: A Jewish Perspective"
Dr. Pinchas Lapide is the author of "The Resurrection of Jesus: A Jewish Perspective" and he wrote the following (pp. 114-115):
Quote:
Matthew puts [the resurrection] at night, right after the end of the Sabbath, but Mark and Luke in the early Sunday morning.
The obscure formulation of Matthew, which is awkward in Greek (28:1) "now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week (or: of the Sabbath)," or according to the Elberfeld… Continue
Mark 16:2 "the SUN being now risen" is the SUN of Malachi 4:2
Mark 16:2
And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre
*at the rising of the sun.*
~~~~~~~~~~~

An insightful commentary can be found, in of all places, in a Catholic bible, which explains the identity of the "sun" that was risen when the women came to the tomb.

It was not the astronomical sun in the Heavens, but the "SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS" of Malachi 4:2, who is our Messiah!

Mark… Continue

Women In (Congregational) Leadership

Women In Leadership

A Study in Paul's View

by Lenore Lindsey Mullican

(This scholarly woman is a Hebrew teacher and historian who teaches and is a department head at ORU in Tulsa, Oklahoma.)

The interpretation and understanding of Paul’s views on women in Church leadership has had a profound effect on the expression of God-given gifts by women to the Christian community. Women have been restricted from exercising their spiritual gifts because some… Continue

Pt 2) The Biblical Feasts: Redeeming The Time

THE MEANING OF THE FEASTS

Each feast reveals a piece of the mystery like a piece of a jig-saw puzzle in time. When the picture is complete, we find ourselves gazing at a portrait of Jesus Christ. With that understanding, every activity in our life is part of the celebration and thus becomes holy service to God. Without it, all activities are pseudo-events and remain only idol worship.

At three of the feasts--Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles--every… Continue

Pt 1) The Biblical Feasts: Redeeming The Time

The Feasts: Redeeming the Time

For most of its existence, the Christian Church has been unaware that it is surrounded by a pulsating cycle of seasons and celebrations ordained by God ... a wellspring of revelation just beyond its reach.

It has tried to set a rhythm of its own with "holidays" and liturgical observances, many taken over from pagan celebrations. But even Easter, the oldest and most revered observance, vibrates slightly out of sync with the… Continue

Easter? Constantinian or Christian?

Our Savior said in:

Matt. 28: 19 - 20

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations.........Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.

Since Easter is one of the major holidays of the Christian church, I'd love for someone to post the text where our Messiah or His apostles commanded their listeners/readers to observe Easter, especially with a new outfit, Sunrise service, accompanied with the Easter bunny who brings the Easter Eggs.

If you… Continue

Festivals the Early Christians Observed

Festivals the Early Christian Observed

In the New Catholic Encyclopedia Jack finds this candid admission:

"The earliest Christians did not immediately disassociate themselves from the observance of the Jewish feasts. Many references in the NT [New Testament] indicate that Jesus and His disciples, as well as the early Palestinian Christian communities, observed the Sabbath and the major annual festivals"

(New Catholic Encyclopedia, Early… Continue
