Should a pastor that spends most of his time preaching and teaching get paid for what God has him to do? I know what the scriptures says about this, but would you pastor for free?

Excellent disscussion, I personally would preach and teach for free, see we where born with a purpose and many of us are in the five fold ministry, and have other gifts and talents. I see it as this why do evanglist, pastors, bishop, apostles, and teachers get paid, but prophet, and prophetess, musicians, soloist, choirs, deaconess, deacon, etc. Dont get paid to do what they do, and if they do, they are not offer half the amount of money the five fold ministry is offered and paid. I mean lets be real the bible tells us that birds don't havest and store food, God feeds them, so Im pretty sure is God truly ordained you to do his work he will bless you. Being in the five fold is not all abotu getting your pockets fat, for some its being called a low paying job, i disagree, we are very bless through the Father. then for other its a high paying job. I would do it for me thats how I personally feel, because salvation is free, not a fee. Now when it comes to tithes and offering thats diffrent, but if these people feel they got to get paid to pace the pulpit, sweat, jump, minister to people and get paid, you need to take it up with God, because the blessing Jesus got from this was saved souls, and thats what its about saving souls, other things God will supply.
That's the key, what you said. They have taken preaching the Word as a "paying job". People take the word wages, prosper, prosperity to mean nothing but money and all out of context. Money is the world's kingdom and not God's Kingdom. Tell them to get a job during the week and stop selling in the Temples and see how many would still do it. Yeah I know most will say "Yes I would". They got the money now. Better still let them do as Jesus told the rich man, to sell all they have and give it to the poor and then see how many would.
Amen, well said also brother in Christ. I totally agree.
I believe if the man in charge of the church does the work of God well, i am sure a portion in the bible says, A LABOURER IS WORTHY OF HIS WAGES. on or church does not acknowledge the is doing God's bid then it is either the people are not reading their bible or the pastor is not giving all to them concerning the word....That is how i see it.
See this is rightly dividing the Word and keeping it in the context God left for us and not us misusing it. You should hear how Creflo Dollar messes up what the word prosper means to him and telling his flock if they don't give money then they won't get none while they put money all on his floor for him. Like you said you can't take on verse and not see the whole to get the true meaning and not just fit it for your own selfish needs. Great showing and from His Word Brother Moreh. But they don't hear you tho! LOL
My BROTHER, Moreh what you have stated here is TRUTH........

I was in a little small town most of the week, but the hospitality was far beyond re-proach/ did not rather i was not allowed too stay in a HOTEL/ nor buy any meals etc...

Now I am not wealthy by any means/ but too bve worthy of such a grand welcoming/visit it was far beyond me..

Old folks around my way used too sing a SONG I WOULDN"T TAKE NOTHING FOR MY JOURNEY.

To quote JOHN "they don' hear you tho'" why would they they haven't HEARD MOSES/the PROPHETS/ nor THE PSALMS/Definitely not YESHUA/ so why you myself or any other???

SHALOM
question: if giving to preachers brings blessings as the false prophets teach, why don't they give money to the congregation in order that they be blessed?

God Bless
Hi Pastor, I'm a laywoman if you will, but we know that Scripture says, 'a workman is worthy of his hire.' Therefore, yes a Pastor should get paid for his services. We all know there is a business side to any ministry. If a pastor isn't paid, he can't provide for his own family. Now, we all have heard the stories of wonderful pastors struggling to start up their church. Many have had to preach for free and have done just that. God bless them. As such is the case, we know that pastors 'do' preach for free and should temporarily preach for free if the anointing of the Lord is upon him. As their church grows, God will then use the parishoners donations to provide the funds for regular pay. It is the way it should be.
Sister Johnson, I'm a layman but in the Bible in the OT, wages was for work done and I mean work, a job in the field or something, in the NT it (wages) is mentioned five times, Luke 3:14, John 4:36, Romans 6:23, 2Corinthians 11:8 and 2Peter 2:15 and none of them meant what is being preached or what we refer wages as being money except in 2Corinthians 11:8, Paul called it robbery and if you look in vese 7 he preached the Gospel freely, meaning free of charge. See this is another problem with what these teachers teach and using books that have been written so that it says what they want us to hear. I know others will disagree (and the know I don't care) but get a KJV Bible and see what it really means. Don't be fooled by these prosperity preachers. Read the bible yourself because it's of no private interpretation you just have to ask the Holy Spirit to teach it to you. God bless.
So John are you saying that the labour is not worthy of his reward? And Im not talking about the jets, fancy cars, or anything like that but something that he may be able to provide for his family and not have to worry about if the bills will be paid? The service a pastor provides is with out question.
Reverand Culberson, I'm surprised that more ministers haven't responded as you have. By all means a labourer with a job should be paid with food and a place to stay if they are preaching and teaching at one's home. It's when the ministers take the word labourer out of context to mean paid money and make preaching a business to make a living is what I speak of. God's reward is in His Kingdom and the world is not His Kingdom though he is in control. Please show my scripturally where it says those that preach His Word get paid with money. Look up what wages means in the bible and not Websters dictionary please. When one takes the honor/privilege to teach/preach God's Word they do it from the heart and spirit and not the pocket. When one make preaching out of a job to be paid they will take that up with God and not me. I am merely going by what the scriptures say and not what man says and turned preaching in to. But that is me personally and when I see the minister eating good but a flock member isn't nor being help, yeah I have a problem with that. I have known many ministers that had full time jobs and preached on Sundays/Saturdays and didn't take a dime nor sell anything. They don't have to worry about bills with a job like everyone else. Not to take up offerings to help a member in the congregation in need or to help pay the building rent for the services on the weekend and use during the week should fall on the whole congregation. I just know I'm personally never going to put my money I work for in the preachers pocket for them to preach what I get from reading myself and taught by the same Spirit as the man in the pulpit. If he comes to my home I will feed him and if he needs a place to sleep I will provide that also. Don't mean to sound arrogant and hope you don't take it as that. I'm being just as honest as I can be and I pray scriptually spiritual. May the Lord continue to bless you as you preach and teach His Word.
