Amen Brother, Amen

poor theology? becasue of bad theology many people that call on the name of jesus and claim that they are saved do so in vain.... Theology isn't bad. it's the study of God.  unless we worship him in spirit and in truth then we do it in vain. Theology allows us to understand the truth of who God is and how he wants us to follow after him. People hate theology becasue it exposses peoples hate for God.... even with those that call them selfs christians... i agree with you Todd in that you dont half to speak in tongues tobe saved.

Brother, Prophet Jeromy A. Smith,

I have to encourage you to read the discussion question...No one who has joined in on the discussion has stated or even hinted that One must Speak in Tongues to be Saved!

The Question is, "Is Speaking in Tongues The First Evidence of being Filled or Baptized with The Holy Ghost?"

There is a difference between being Saved and being Filled or Baptized with The Holy Ghost!

Please refer to: Acts 1:5 and Hebrews 6:2

God bless you, and Theology is Great!!!....when it's according to God's Word.

Sir i only said i was in agreement with Todd, that you dont half to speak in tongues to be saved, im very well aware of our discussion, im starting to really enjoy it.

Speaking in tongues is just the evidence of being filled with the Holy Ghost, the evidence being the show, witnessed, and believed, but when we repent and ask for forgiveness the spirit then moves into our bodies enhancing our spirit. I know many people who have given their lives to God and still does not speak in tongues. but the spirit is in them. So the answer is no, it is not the first signs, when we repent their are other signs that are evident that the Holy Spirit resides within us..a new humbless, spiritual awareness, a new comfort,  a new joy. these things often take place before the speaking of tongues

Greetings Prophetess Ura Gray,

Consider Mark 16:17

And these SIGNS shall follow them that believe.

1. In (His Name) shall they cast out devils.

2. THEY SHALL SPEAK WITH NEW TONGUES.

3.They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them.

4. They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

I agree, especially to "the churched" you can clearly notice a new humble-ness, spiritual awareness, new comfort, and new joy which are the benefits of The Holy Spirit. But "the un-churched" might label this new life-style and dispostion as "Weird". But "the un-churched" will clearly notice "SIGNS": Casting out devils, Speaking in New Tongues, not being hurt by any deadly thing, laying hands on the sick for their recovery...Not to mention an un-questionable action being put on display for God's Glory!  These "types" of SIGNS are the ones or one discussed. The ones or one we see on Pentcost and the First time gentiles were baptized in The Holy Ghost. I Believe this is "the spirit" of the discussion....The Pentecostal View, Tongues as the first evidence vs. The Holiness View-Tongues are one of many gifts, that could be the first evidence of the baptism of The Holy Spirit.

Lastly I'll end with this: Isaiah 28:11- 12

"For with stammering lips and another tongue will He speak to this people. To whom He said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear."

God Bless you Prophetess Gray, and Thank you so much for your insight!

Yes Amen Pastor, I think to the un-churched or un learned it all looks weird, the different behaviors, the different tongues especially, but I do wonder if the speaking of the tongues sign is maybe meant for the believers?,  When the bible refers to them that believe or Gods/His people it is referring to the saints. To see with their own eyes and hear with thier own ears that there is a Holy Spirit. people get kinda scared or weired out when you speak in tongues, some even feel that it is cultic or just a show because they have never been exposed to it and dont understand or even know what the bible says or had a spiritual encounter with the Spirit. and yes I know that the signs and wonders does get the attention of the unbelievers..It is my pleasure to be a part of your discusion.

repentence is a fruit of the spirits moving upon a person.

John 3 verses 3 and 5

Would'nt you agree that Repentence is The Choice of Mankind, a product of his free-will?

We would never say that The Holy Spirit forces one to Repent.

The Holy Spirit draws us to God, but we choose to Repent and Recieve Jesus!

Romans 10:10 says For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

John 3: 3-5 refers to Mankinds choice to be Born-again...The Holy Spirit does not force anyone to Repent and Recieve Jesus!

God Bless you brother!

a careful study of scripture will show you amans will is enslved to his or her nature.

with that being said how does a dead man choose anything. the bible declares that a man born into sin and possesing a sinful nature is dead. Romans also say knowone seeks the Lord no not one.

the only way biblicaly to sugest aman can have free will, is to follow the statement up and say your only free to choose within you nature.

so without a soverign act of Gods spirit drawing one to christ, the sinner will never choose God,

Here is scripture to show you repentence and salvation isnt a result of free will but an act of God by his spirit.

John 1:13

they “were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of
man, but of God”

notice the word says "nor the will of man'

there is no way around that, people will either agree with the truth  and the bible or go away in error.

The fact that we are passive in regeneration is also evident when Scripture refers to it as being “born” or being “born again” (cf. James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:3; John 3:3–8). We did not choose to be made physically alive and we did not choose to be born—it is something that happened to us; similarly, these analogies in Scripture suggest that we are entirely passive in regeneration.
This sovereign work of God in regeneration was also predicted in the prophecy of Ezekiel. Through him God promised a time in the future when he would give new spiritual life to his people:
A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will take out of your flesh the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to observe my ordinances. (Ezek. 36:26–27)
Which member of the Trinity is the one who causes regeneration? When Jesus speaks of being “born of the Spirit” (John 3:8), he indicates that it is especially God the Holy Spirit who produces regeneration. But other verses also indicate the involvement of God the Father in regeneration: Paul specifies that it is God who “made us alive together with Christ” (Eph. 2:5; cf. Col. 2:13). And James says that it is the “Father of lights” who gave us new birth: “Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures” (James 1:17–18).1 Finally, Peter says that God “according to his abundant mercy has given us new birth... through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3, author’s translation). We can conclude that both God the Father and God the Holy Spirit bring about regeneration.
What is the connection between effective calling2and regeneration? The Scriptures indicates that regeneration must come before we can respond to effective calling with saving faith. Therefore we can say that regeneration comes before the result of effective calling (our faith). But it is more difficult to specify the exact relationship in time between regeneration and the human proclamation of the gospel through which God works in effective calling. At least two passages suggest that God regenerates us at the same time as he speaks to us in effective calling: Peter says, “You have been born anew not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God.... That word is the good news which was preached to you” (1 Peter 1:23, 25). And James says, “He chose to give us birth through the word of truth” (James 1:18 NIV). As the gospel comes to us, God speaks through it to summon us to himself (effective calling) and to give us new spiritual life (regeneration) so that we are enabled to respond in faith. Effective calling is thus God the Father speaking powerfully to us and regeneration is God the Father and God the Holy Spirit working powerfully in us to make us alive. These two things must have happened simultaneously as Peter was preaching the gospel to the household of Cornelius, for while he was still preaching “the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word” (Acts 10:44).
Again the first evidence of being filled with The Holy Ghost is Rebirth also know as Regeneration. pastor im blessed by this discussion, i believe in all the Gifts of the Spirit but i also must maintain the standard of truth as it is in the Bible. I understand  our dicussion and our topic, im very educated holding a degree in theology and 2 more years or seminary. my heart is that you would visit the beautiful doctrine of Regeneration, unless this doctrine is understood God really never saves anyone he only makes it possible for those that make good decisions. this school of thought is worked based and strips one from the power of the cross. Man Of God i plea with you tobe prayerful and give the evidence i have given some prayer and thought. that you wouldn't misrepresent the scriptures and even Christ.
Love you Sir and Pray the Lord bless you and keep you in all truth
