I was asked this question and I want to try to answer it.

God's voice may sound different to each of us but the message is the same. His voice sounds the same as it did when He called you to salvation. It's a still, small voice that's speaks with clarity and authority. He ONLY speaks HIS word to us! For instance, He'll say things like take heed, occupy, witness, work, rebuke, pray, seek, fast, draw nigh, utter not a word, walk away, don't give room, I love you, give it to me, show compassion, sacrifice, etc. These are all words that most of us resist at some point or another but He really speaks these words and so many more. The more we learn and know His word then we'll know when He is speaking to us because we'll remember what His word says.

Many times we look for an audible voice that sounds like a clash of thunder. Well, I won't say that God never speaks like that but just in case you never hear that sound, know that God is speaking to you through your heart everyday. Your ear drum may never hear a sound but as long as your heart is pumping and God is in it, then you'll hear His voice. The more you get to know Him through His word, the more familiar you'll become with His voice.
