At many carnivals you will find a booth with a palm reader or a fortuneteller or someone who says they will tell you your future ... For a nominal fee of course. For some who pay the price it is a novelty...a carnival experience that is just as exciting as the roller coaster ride, the cotton candy and smoked turkey legs, and the fun house. But for others, it is a serious decision. They will base significant life choices on what is told to them by these persons.

I noticed that we do the same thing in the Body of Christ.

Have you noticed that many people flock to prophetic conferences or try to position themselves in a seer/prophets path in hopes to get a "reading". They run to the conferences with offerings in hand in hopes of hearing a word from God from the seer/prophet. They hope that somehow that Lord will give that person insight to their situation and information will be shared that they can use to make difficult decisions. Others go for the novelty and entertainment of signs and wonders. To them it is a spiritual sideshow.

Is this really the role of the seer/prophet?

Are the prophetic gatherings nothing more than a sideshow for spiritually starved spectators?

Have you ever had a person give you a "word from the Lord" and it didn't come true?

Or have you only had great prosperity prophesied to you but never gloom and doom? Where are the prophets like the ones we read about in the Bible that will tell you the true things that will happen to you...those things that don't sound so good but in fact tell of hard times, times of testing and trying, or possible discipline from the Lord if you don't straighten up and fly right? Where are those prophets...spokespersons of God?

Why don't we hear these types of things said at "prophetic conferences"?

Something was said to me by a person who doesn't even go by the title "prophet" and I KNEW it was God speaking to them. Why? Because they spoke details about my PAST, present, and what would happen in my future if I didn't make certain decisions. I didn't know this person at all and they knew specific details about my past. I did not seek them for advice, didn't even mention things that were in my heart when we met. But in the same pattern we see in the Bible, God will send someone to you to speak to you when you either can't hear God speak to you Himself or are willingly ignoring God.

Will I run to a prophetic conference just because that is what someone chooses to call it... Most likely no. But will I listen when I recognize God using a willing vessel to come across my path in Biblical pattern... Well you be the judge of that.

Am I totally against prophetic conferences? Eh, if you choose to go, I won't condemn you. I just know how God typically deals with me and it is always in accordance to the Biblical pattern.

Feel free to share your thoughts on thr topic.

Those are familiar spirits, which are fallen angels, and ministers of satan.
Hezekiah,

That is why I say "biblical pattern".

Prophets typical came with warnings and rebuke just before God's judgment. It was like your last warning before a whooping.

We don't see too much of that from American Black "prophets"
That depends on where you are. Almost all the Prophets, that I know in this area do just that, from being here on BPN I have grown to appreciate more my rural area. I do know that in the surrounding cities Dallas, Fort Worth..... there are those that walk in their callings as well.

And their warnings and rebukes always line up with the word of God
Thats not always true. The Prophets mission was not just a big "warning label" for the people. The Prophets often came with the blessing of the LORD as well. Black Prophets do this as well as warn of impending doom. The real question is "do people actually pay attention???"
Evg. Fuggett,

That is what I mean... I have seen so many adverts for Prophetic Conferences that seem to appeal to the "spiritual carnival" mentality that a lot of people have.

People run to be told it is their season their time ... The econimic situation won't touch you you will be rich and be able to pay all your bills.

When war or famine, disease, captivity oe dispersement would be allowed by God as judgment on a disobedient nation well THAT was their season...THAT was "the word from the Lord" from the mouth of the prophets.

Remember the Prophet Nathan and King David.

I guess so many have a desire to know the future so they can be prepared for it...a way to control our destinies and not be at the mercy of evil spirits or a sovereign God. So many are misled by following church traditions as it pertains to prophecy. Some proohecies become an accepted truth.

The prophets in the Bible did more preaching (forth telling) than they did predicting the future (fore telling).

Hebrews 1:1
The bible says to test the spirits and to see if they are of God. You test the spirirts[prophets, apostles, seeres pastors etc] by the word of God. The only problem We christains have as a whole is . That We as a Whole don't know thw Word of God .[BIBLE]
AMEN!

Trevor you are right as well, thank you for the clarification, there is no need to seek out prophets for a word, All word and direction is found in the Bible.

Prophets, yes bring blessings!!!!
And that is my ooint...the proohetic conferences have become a carnival side show where the ONLY thing that is being foretold and forthtold is blessing blessing blessing.... When the people are really desiring God to bless their mess.

On the contrary there have been some who have indeed spoken blessing and it came to pass.

The true test of a prophet when the prophesy is fore telling is that the prophesy will come true.

Whe they are forth telling it will line up with Gods word.

In either case if YOU have a real relationship with the Lord..His Spirit will confirm it to you.

Didn't someone here just mention test the spirits???

I'm using my pohone to respond so it is difficult to see and remember who said what when several have spoken
Truth be told, the only difference between the Sorcerer and the Seer is "WHICH GOD DO YOU REALLY SERVE?" The false Prophet is not always a person who aren't called to the office. A False Prophet can also be (and is quite often) a person with a Prophetic calling who just ran from the will of GOD. A rogue servant. They are no different than the Demon. People tend to forget what demons original jobs were: they were angelic hosts gone corrupt.
Amen, however their GIFT is influence by evil, remember after Samuel's death , Saul had driven all necromancers and magicians from Israel, the witch of Endor was shown up as a nonbeliever in her own gift, she screamed at the appearance of Samuel in shock.

28:11 Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.

12 And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.
"For the gifts and callings are without repentance"
true, but why did she scream when she saw the person she was suppose to be summoning up?
