How much time do you spend preparing the message?

Brother Anthony, I read in a book by the first African American Chaplain in the Senate (forgot his name) and he mentioned that for every minute of the Sunday sermon he spends approximately an hour per minute in preparation. So that would conclude that he spends 40 hours per week in preparation for 40 minutes of his sermon. Like a full time job. For me since I speak to about 2-3 churches per week about global missions, I only have to speak mainly the same thing or do the same "sermon" everytime since I speak at different churches. I have maybe 3-4 different "sermons" I can pull from depending on the church and how much they already are aware of missions as a whole. Even though for the most part am well aware of what I have to say, I still spend a week beforehand going over and adding this or that and subtracting this and that, just because I"ve grown much since the first time I have spoken. God is always giving me more information through walking in the power of His Word. And in doing this, I can look back on my first speaking engagement and can tell how much different my "sermons" have become since the first time.
Anthony,

I think it depends on what you preach, and how you preach it. When I was teaching Teens in highschool, I wondered why I could not keep their attention. So, I started to teach fresh and new things every meeting, and I taught it like hitler speaking to his German crowd, and I kept the attention all day. Bring something fresh and new every service, preach with fire, and it does not matter if you are preaching for 2 hours... your crowd will listen.
YES!! I lost it at the beginning of the message in opening prayer!!
Mine were mixed. The Prophetic kicked in and it was a combo of tears of joy, and tears of sorrow because I knew that they wouldn't accept the message........they didn't.
The renouned Preacher, Teacher Dr. Fredrick Price answered the question in one of his books. He spoke of how busy his schedule was in years pass, surely now his schedule is overwhelmingly busy. He disciplined himself in prayer and reading three chapters a day in the word of God. When the time came to preach he was able to flow in the word.

On the otherhand, I have found myself reading and studying at any time I'm moved by the spirit usually in the early morning. There are times when that does not always occur and Sunday is fastly approaching. Then I word study, or Charactor study, but it always comes back to the savior and salvation for man relevant for the day.

As a working pastor, stealing away is a battle I use Friday, Saturday and Sunday just before day. I spend four to six hours preparing a message. I read the word during the week and prepare at the end of the week.
Thats true and dangerous......
How much time do I spend? It all depends on the message and the time I have til D-Day. No two messages are alike.
I stand a lot more confident in GOD's word now than I ever did before. I still get a "holy nervousness" since I am delivering manna to GOD's children. Thats all out of respect. Other than that though, I don't get nervous, I don't get overly worked up. Here's an example of what I mean: I have been hit with a Prophetic word to give, and not a traditional sermon. Once I have the Word from GOD, the rest of my time is spent in relaxation type of consecration, not necessarily laying on my face in prayer.
